HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss-Stillman College had a tough 3-2 loss against Rust College in their first match of the season. In the first set, the Tigers made an impressive comeback, turning a 6-1 deficit into a 14-7 lead, their largest of the night. They closed out the set with a 6-1 run, securing the win.
However, in the second and third sets, Rust College responded strongly, pulling away with runs of their own. Stillman fought back in the fourth set, using a 4-0 run to tie the match at 14-14 and eventually taking a 17-14 lead. They sealed the set with a 7-2 run, led by Raine Patterson’s powerful kill.
Unfortunately, in the decisive fifth set, Rust College managed to edge out Stillman with a 15-12 victory. Despite the loss, Stillman College showed resilience and fought hard throughout the match.
